TWO-COLOR ACRYLIC FRENCH OVER NAIL TIPS — MANNEQUIN HAND

Create a classic pink-and-white French enhancement over properly applied nail tips on a mannequin hand. Students will (1) prep the mannequin nails to look like natural nails (per your YT video), (2) adhere tips, and (3) apply white and pink polymer powders using correct bead control, smile-line detailing, finishing, and safety.

MATERIALS (SET AT STATION)

  1. Matching monomer liquid & polymer powders (white and pink) + lidded dappen dishes.
  2. Natural-hair brush (e.g., kolinsky/sable blend), lint-free wipes.
  3. Abrasives: medium-grit (150–180) for shaping; 180-grit to refine; 240+ to finish; buffer/shiner.
  4. Nail surface cleanser/alcohol, dehydrator, primer (acid-free preferred), dust brush.
  5. Adhesive and assorted nail tips (size to each finger). Tips add length before overlay.
  6. PPE (gloves/eye protection).

STATION PREP (SANITATION)

Clean and disinfect table; set up neatly; wash hands.

Maintain infection prevention measures throughout.

PROCEDURE A — “MAKE IT LOOK NATURAL” (MANNEQUIN PREP)

Follow your YT demo for the natural-nail look, then proceed with the standardized prep below.

PROCEDURE B — TIP APPLICATION (LENGTH & SHAPE)

  1. Select tips that fit sidewall-to-sidewall; apply adhesive and attach to create length.
  2. Cut/shape tips to desired length; lightly refine the blend area without thinning the natural nail.
  3. Primer to natural nail only (never on plastic tips). Allow to dry fully (acid-free dries shiny/sticky; acid-based dries chalky).

CAUTION: Do not apply product over wet primer; avoid getting primer on tips (it can melt/brittle the tip and weaken adhesive). Wear PPE with acid-based primer.

PROCEDURE C — TWO-COLOR FRENCH APPLICATION (WHITE + PINK)

Goal: Clean, even smile line, bright white free-edge zone, natural-looking pink nail plate.

White Zone (Tip/Free Edge):

  1. Place a white bead (medium-to-dry) at the smile-line area over the tip; guide to corners; shape the free-edge zone.
  2. Use the tip of the brush to carve a crisp smile line. For precision, add tiny dryer white beads at corners to refine.

Pink Zone (Nail Plate):

3) Place a small/wet pink bead in the center of the nail plate; tap toward the cuticle without flooding; smooth and blend over the white.

Bead Control (All Steps):

4) Aim for medium beads; a perfect bead is round, shiny, and settles but doesn’t run. Too much powder → brittle/discolored; too little → weak & higher irritation risk.

5) Maintain correct powder-to-liquid ratio; keep skin product-free; allow to cure before filing.

PROCEDURE D — FINISHING & DETAILING

  1. Shape perimeter with medium-grit abrasive. Refine the surface with 180-grit.
  2. Buff with a coarse or higher buffer; shiner if no polish will be worn.
  3. Cleanse with alcohol. Optional: finish with polish/gel color.

QUALITY CHECK — “FRENCH TEST”

  1. Smile lines: even depth and symmetry on all nails; corners clean/sharp.
  2. Structure: apex placement consistent; sidewalls straight; C-curves matched; thickness even.
  3. Surface: scratch-free after finishing sequence; shine uniform.

CLEANUP & SAFETY

  1. Never apply product over wet primer; primer stays on natural nail only (not on tips).
  2. Disinfect and reset station; follow all infection-control procedures.
